BIO
Mei Lin Meyers is an emerging artist living, working and learning across stolen Wangal, Gadigal and Bidjigal Lands.
Mei Lin’s practice moves across/btwn/in/with sculpture, installation, painting, video, and writing. Traversing archives-forms-mediums, Mei Lin searches for relational practices to help heal from erased kinship, and to imagine ways of being that disrupt the violent isolating goal of colonial structures.
As a form of queer diasporic storytelling and imagining, their practice attends to the often-unexpected resonances and joyful connections between things. e.g. the flake-like dance of kite-shaped aliens – the singing of a 10 pcs 70’s band- and the knuckles on a hand of ginger. Their practice explores fuzzy-edged and non-linear kinship, masculinity, asexual desires, cultural hybridity/fluidity and worldmaking. Mei Lin draws upon asexual methodology and methods as well as critical whiteness studies and anti-colonial and queer theorists.
Their current projects incl. research into the coloniality of ‘Scouts Australia’ and speculating modes/methods of creative rupture. And bawan – to hold and to play with zhuizi (Chinese Belt Toggles) – a loving tradition of object cultivating which provide a roadmap of disobedience against white western patriarchal masculinity.

Mei Lin is a lover of zhuizi, ginger, Stop Making Sense, Placebo, ceramics, mind maps and cooking. Their ancestors are makers (bookbinders, sewers, knitters, artists) . They are of mixed Chinese & Anglo heritage. Their patrilineage (Lu), traces to Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China.
Mei Lin grew up in Greater Western Syd - Northmead, Winston Hills, and Kenthurst. ~ They now live + potter around for leafy veg greens in Burwood.
Mei Lin has exhibited at ARI’s including PARI, Kudos Gallery, AD Space and Goodspace Gallery. They have been a finalist in The Jenny Birt Award, Kudos Emerging Artist + Designer Award and Mosman Youth Art Prize. They have completed their BFA undergraduate at UNSW and are enrolled for the 2025 honours cohort.
