Solo Exhibition with Kudos as a part of winning the Kudos Emerging Artist Award.
When I was a teenager, I believed that eating a bowl full of peas would transform me.
Oh how I would grow, morphing into something as smooth and slick as an eel.
Now, the bag of frozen peas in my freezer is a comfort and companion to my meals, something to defrost and nurture my body during fatigue flare-ups. A consistent texture, size and shape, that makes eating easier.
Mei Lin Meyers' solo exhibition, PLEASURE EVERY ATOM explores transformation, and how dysmorphia and dysphoria sticks to the body like a second skin. Through painting, video and textiles, Mei Lin tries to hold gently, the prickly sensation in the small of their back. The bump (pea beneath the pillows), that is almost illegible and unnameable through layers and layers of pillows.
Playing with language, every artwork is an acrostic poem for P-E-A. The sensation, the P-E-A, is forever changing. P-E-A for Protrude Elbow Angle… Predestined Eel Asymmetry… Please Edge Arrival… and more...
