Be Prepared(?): a working booklet exploring Boy Scouts, Scouts Australia, gender, eggs, friends, moments of (dis)orientation, queerness and images of other things
This booklet is a collection of questions - a working towards understanding the orientating affect of the Scouting Movement. With some theory, lists, scenes, images, personal stories and quotes, this booklet hopes to describe some contradictions in my Scouting experience, locate moments of disruption, and find (dis)orientations.
What happens if we re-understand the skills taught to us by Scouts in order to radically oppose our ‘determined/desired’ function as the ‘ideal citizen’ subject?
How can we critique and challenge the colonialist binaries which are structurally, symbolically, and materially prescribed by the Scout Movement – and to also see differently whatever we experienced there?
As ex-Scouts, how can we intentionally, actively and creatively work towards community and living in ways that align with our ACTUAL values?
