‘I peer into 西湖(West Lake) searching for the reflection of my ancestors’ is a ’ , collection of sculptural paintings which respond to theorist Stuart Halls’ understanding of culture as “exceedingly slippery, vague and amorphous” (Hall, 1983). Painting onto distended calico supports, Mei Lin peers into murkey histoies - revealing a state of flux.
