Plum-Jade

Oil on primed calico, panne velvet, satin, polyester thread and polyester fill, dimensions variable.

Plum-Jade is a speculative form which ponders how fragmented histories sprout, wither or stagnate. The biomorphic form runs parallel with the artist, an organism that Mei Lin feeds by whispering the story of their conception and the stories that precede them. The artist nurtures Plum-Jade.

This conversation surrounding identity formation is discussed through the visual language of Science Fiction; a genre that ponders the future, while often hypocritically reimagining the present. The textile-based work questions the ‘’origin’, the event horizon, the way in which knowledge is transferred and filters through the crevices. How are mistranslations in our upbringing reiterated across our lives?
